Forcing “Healthcare” through Congress by Hook or Crook

October 16, 2009

Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Charlie Rangel. Arrogance.

There are two houses of Congress, The House and The Senate. The house, chaired by Democrat Speaker Nancy Pelosi, has 435 Congressmen. The Senate has 100 Senators, 2 from each state and is chaired by Democrat Senator Harry Reid. The Senate is supposed to be “deliberative,” wise, thoughtful. They are supposed to need 60 votes to get a bill to move forward.

Well, that would be a problem for the radical “healthcare” laws they are trying to ram through. Not that many want the government to overthrow the country’s medical system.

A sneaky way for arrogant congressmen to get around the rules is called “Budget Reconciliation,” aka the “Nuclear Option.”

Do Dems Still Need 60 Senate Votes for Health Care?

.

For “Healthcare.” That sounds noble desn’t it?

Set ‘em up:

This past summer, the Senate wrote into its budget rules that beginning Oct. 15, they could use a procedural maneuver called “reconciliation” to pass health care reform, which would allow the bill to pass with 51 votes instead of the 60 needed to overcome a filibuster. A committee in the House of Representatives today quietly took the precautions necessary to allow the Senate to proceed with reconciliation, if it comes to that.

And knock  them down:

“I think it would be perceived, certainly by Republicans and moderates, as a last ditch effort to pass something that didn’t have popular support,” he said. “If you’ve gotten to that point, in some ways you’ve kind of lost the war.”

Some liberal reform advocates, however, see reconciliation as a path to victory over Republican obstruction.

It’s an arrogant  effort to pass something that hasn’t much public support. “Republican obstruction?” Please, I hope all 100 Senators vote against it!

Here’s my thought for the moment. They set up “Budget Reconciliation,” aka the “Nuclear Option” in order to do some arm-twisting. Oh, gee, Mr Senator. Your vote isn’t going to matter anyway. We always have the “Nuclear Option.” What do you want for your vote?

House Panel Paves Way for ‘Nuclear Option’ in Health Care Reform Bill

.

The Ways and Means Committee has adjusted the health care overhaul package so that the Senate, down the road, could avoid a filibuster and pass health care reform with a smaller number of votes than normally required.

A key House committee on Thursday quietly altered its health care legislation in a way that could allow the Senate to mow over Republican opposition to Democratic reforms by exploiting a budgetary loophole.

The Ways and Means Committee adjusted its health care overhaul package so that the Senate, down the road, could avoid a filibuster and pass health care reform with a smaller number of votes than normally required.

The long-discussed process, nicknamed the “nuclear option,” is known as reconciliation. It’s coming into potential play after the Senate Finance Committee on Tuesday became the last of five committees to approve health care reform legislation, sending the overhaul proposals a big step closer to the president’s desk. Before it gets there, though, the bill has to pass from the committees to the floors of the House and Senate.

What is the “key House committee?” It is the Ways and Means Committee. And just who is chair of the committee?

Charlie Rangel forgets to disclose $600,000 in income. Should he give up the Ways and Means gavel?

The head of the tax-law writing committee “forgets” to pay all his taxes.

He is connected — one of the original Friends of Bill (Clinton), an avid supporter of Hillary Rodham Clinton.

He has the most powerful perch in Congress as head of the House Ways and Means Committee.

But New York Democrat Charlie Rangel is under increasing pressure to step down as chairman in the wake of an ethics investigation over his failure to report $600,000 in assets in his Senate financial disclosure form. In recent “amendments” to his reports, Rangel acknowledged that he omitted just a few assets — such as a Merrill Lynch Global account worth at least $250,000, holdings in PepsiCo and Yum! Brands stocks,  a vacation property in the Dominican Republic and, oh yeah, up to $100,000 in rent from a Harlem brownstone that he sold in 2004 for more than $1 million.

“Senate ethics committee”.

But he has an important role in twisting the the rules so “Budget Reconciliation,” aka the “Nuclear Option” can be used to “pass healthcare.”

House Ethics Committee. Is that like “Jumbo Shrimp?”

Harlem Congressman Gave Campaign Contributions To 3 Dems On Ethics Committee Charged With Investigating Him

Huh.

NEW YORK (CBS) ― CBS2 HD has learned of more alleged back-door dealings and political power peddling by Democratic Rep. Charles Rangel.

The reigning member of Congress’ top tax committee is apparently “wrangling” other politicos to get him out of his own financial and tax troubles.

Here’s a look at Charlie’s so-called “angels” involved in his ethics investigation.

Congressman Rangel has been arrogant in refusing to discuss how, as the man who writes this country’s tax laws, he failed to report over $1 million in outside income and $3 million in business transactions as required by the House, lapses under investigation by the House Ethics Committee.

Have a nice day.
